When: Sunday June 21, 2015

I organize an annual summer solstice picnic.

Rain date: Sunday June 28, 2015.

In case of bad weather

If I postpone/cancel, I will put a notice up on this page by 9:00 am the day of the picnic.

Where: Britannia Beach

Latitude/Longitude: 45.36372/-75.80170

Address: 102 Greenview Ave, Ottawa

The address is for the park pavilion.

Britannia Beach is in a park at the northern end of Pinecrest. There is free parking (although it might be a good idea to arrive early to take advantage of it, it might fill up), it is on bus route 16 and along the Ottawa River bike path.

There is a paved, covered picnic area called the Trolley Station where large groups can have picnics. That is NOT where I will be. The bike path which passes through the park is north of the Trolley Station picnic area, and I will choose a grill north of the path and east of the pavilion, canteen and play structure.

What: Bring-your-own-food BBQ picnic

I will get there about 10:00 in order to "claim" a grill and picnic tables for our use. Everyone else can get there early like me or later - as you please.

The beach opens at noon (i.e., the lifeguards start guarding at noon). I will light the BBQ around noon, and it should be ready to start cooking in 30-45 minutes. It should stay hot enough to cook for an hour. If you want to cook at other times, let me know ahead of time and I will do my best to arrange for the BBQ to be hot when you need it. People can stay as long as they like. I will likely leave late afternoon.

I will bring charcoal and stuff to manage the grill like matches, fire-starter, wire brush etc. Each person/family should bring food and drinks for themselves.

Some other things to think about bringing are: frisbee, beach ball, towels, bathing suits, sun-hat, sun block, picnic blanket, sun umbrella.
