00210025. Friday night dance. Caller is Adina Gordon, the band is Crowfoot. |
03800001. The hall in Ways Mills, Quebec. We danced upstairs. The kitchen was downstairs. |
03800002. We ate at the side of the building, outdoors. There's a stream going around this little yard towards the back of the hall. That bike reminds me about one guy who rode his bike to the dance from Central Vermont. It took him all day, and he did dance the Friday night (and the rest of the weekend). He had a nice tan by the evening! That might not his own bike though. |
03800003. Ready for some food ... There was a mix of people at the dance - Americans, Canadians. About 20 people from Ottawa went. |
03800004. The price for the weekend included meals - organic meals which turned out to be vegan-friendly and celiac-conscious as well. The Sunday meal had chicken brochettes but all the other meals were meatless and most dishes were vegan and wheatless. |
03800005. John Argus, wheeling and dealing with a caller Adina Gordon and a musician Michael Ayles. Or maybe they're just catching up on the news. |
03800006. I got Mike to sign my copy of his CD on this trip. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to ask him to dance. Next time ... |
03800007. Crowfoot concert. I got Crowfoot to sign my first CD, and I also bought another CD of theirs. But, I will have to get them to sign the second CD another time. The regular pen didn't write too well on the new CD cover. I've bought some Sharpies, so I'll be ready next time :-) |
03800008. Crowfoot concert in a little church close by (1-minute stroll). The building seemed to be unwired - the lanterns were oil lanterns. |
03800009. The little stream by the side of the yard where we ate. |
03800010. Stream by the hall. The road to the church where the Crowfoot concert was crossed over this stream. |
03800011. A sign on the way to Ooh La La (between Ayers Cliff and Ways Mills). We stayed at Auberge Ayers Cliff. It's under renovation but its going to be really nice when it's done. |
03800012. Another shot of the Ooh La La! sign, in case the first one didn't turn out. |
03800013. We had a singalong session - Nicholas Williams of Crowfoot led it. Here he is teaching one line of a multi-part piece. |
03800014. Nicholas Williams of Crowfoot leading the singalong again. |
03800015. Nicholas Williams of Crowfoot leading the singalong again. |
03800016. John has joined the sopranos. Is there something about John that I don't know? David Baril (lower right, facing away) is singing a song and the group joins in the chorus. |
03800017. David Baril's song again, with everyone joining in the chorus. |
03800018. John. |
03800019. For the last dance, both musician groups got on stage together: Crowfoot, and Michael Ayles and Joanne Garton. The callers were Adina Gordon, when she wasn't grooving, and Marie-Soleil Pilette. |
03800021. Jackie Hall and Crowfoot organized the whole thing. They had to do a lot of things to produce this event. Here Jackie's fixing the floor mats. |
03800022. They put cornstarch down on the floor mats to get just the right degree of sliding. Some people danced barefoot though -- eewwww. |
03800023. Adina calling, ???, Nicholas Williams adjust mike, Joanne Garton, Jaige Trudel, Michael Ayles, Adam Broome. |
03800024. Here we can see that Jackie, an organizer, did get a chance to dance during the weekend, although she did have to miss several dances. |
03800025. The last dance was early afternoon on Sunday. |
