Annual Lac Philippe BBQ

NOT CANCELLED - see you there.

It looks like a fabulous day for the lake!

When: Sunday August 17, 2014

It has been a few years since my last "annual" BBQ picnic, but hopefully the tradition will pick up and be an annual event again.

Rain date: Sunday August 24, 2014.

In case of bad weather

Unless the forecast is for a major region-wide storm for the area, I will not cancel if it rains in Ottawa. The weather in Gatineau park may be completely different than in Ottawa.

If I postpone/cancel, I will put a notice up on this page by 9:00 am the day of the picnic.

Where: Lac Philippe, plage Breton

Latitude/Longitude: 45.61196 / -76.01019

Address:

201-299 Chemin du Lac-Philippe‎
Gatineau Park, Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham, QC J0X 2W0
Canada

The address may be for the hut where you pay the entrance fee.

To get there from Gatineau: Drive north on the #5 highway to the end. Currently it exits just before Wakefield at exit 21(ish). Continue north on the #105 highway past the Wakefield traffic circle. Turn left onto highway 366 towards Lac Lapêche. The turnoff to the left is about 1 km after the Wakefield traffic circle. The sign to turn onto #366 is small, on the right, and it is just before the actual turn.

Or you can go on the #105 highway from Gatineau all the way to the turnoff onto highway 366. I just suggest highway 5 because it is faster.

Drive along #366 highway, until you see a small covered bridge on the left. At the last minute on the right before the turn onto that bridge, you should see a small sign saying something about "secteur lac Philippe". Take that turn over the covered bridge. If you miss the turn, you will see immediately on the left the Caisse Populaire Desjardins de Masham et Luskville. Turn in there, turn around and go back.

Drive in to Gatineau park. There will be an $11.00 per car fee to get into the park. Drive until you get to Plage Breton - turn in there and park. We will be towards the right from the parking lot.

What: Bring-your-own-food BBQ picnic

I will get there about 10:00 in order to "claim" a grill and picnic tables for our use. Everyone else can get there early like me or later - as you please. The beach opens at 10:00 (i.e., the lifeguards start guarding at 10:00). I will light the BBQ around noon, and it should be ready to start cooking in 30-45 minutes. It should stay hot enough to cook for an hour. If you want to cook at other times, let me know ahead of time and I will do my best to arrange for the BBQ to be hot when you need it. People can stay as long as they like. I will likely leave late afternoon.

I will bring charcoal and stuff to manage the grill like matches, fire-starter, wire brush etc. Each person/family should bring food and drinks for themselves.

Some other things to think about bringing are: frisbee, beach ball, towels, bathing suits, sun-hat, sun block, picnic blanket, sun umbrella.
